When we decided to add the Dolomites to our portfolio of trips, our goal was to provide cycling enthusiasts with an unparalleled experience that would enable them to discover one of the most iconic and beautiful cycling destinations in the world. We understand cyclists needs and we wanted to meet those needs by designing a trip that offered the perfect blend of inspiration, challenge, and beauty.
In 2022, Mallorca Cycling Holidays had the privilege of visiting the majestic Dolomites to forge a new collaboration and to provide riders with a chance to experience the breathtaking beauty of Alta Badia, an area that has earned the name of ‘The Gateway to the Passes’. Our team of knowledgeable and experienced guides will take you on a journey, allowing you to see first hand the sights, routes, and summits of this incredible region that hopefully will last long in the memory.
Hotel Melodia del Bosco is located 1350 m above sea level in the very heart of the Alta Badia region, surrounded by the stunning Dolomites. With a high level of service and big modern rooms you will comfortable and relaxed during your stay. The hotel is very cycling friendly and with the owner being a big cyclists all the small details are taken care of with an on site bike garage including pumps and tools. Positioned above the village of Badia with incredible views and stunning mountain scenery it will take your breath away even before you start the first climb.
With our local knowledge and on-the-ground partners, we can create the best routes to ensure that all the cycling goals are achieved. We can tailor a bespoke plan for your group, guaranteeing that you climb and conquer the most iconic passes in the Dolomites. The Pordoi, Sella, Valparola and Giau all sit at over 2200 metres. Each offers endless switchbacks, tough climbing and exhilarating descents. Ride all of these and so many more on this ride through the Dolomites. One of the many highlights on our Dolomites cycling trip is the famous Sella Ronda loop taking you on a circular route around the spectacular sella mountain range, four passes and endless views to be enjoyed along the way . For those looking to test the legs you will not need to look further than the mighty Passo Giau. A 10km climb taking you well above 2000m and as ridden many times by the professionals in the Giro d’Italia. Cycling in the Dolomites really is an awe-inspiring experience.
Your day starts with a delicious breakfast with a wide choice of sweet and savoury food, also you will have the choice of hot food served to you at the table. You can fuel up with lots of high energy food to get ready for an amazing day of cycling.
Dinner is an incredible experience and caters for all palettes and dietary requirements. Upon entering the dining room, a salad bar awaits, but it is much more than just a buffet. Recommended airports for your Dolomites cycling trip include Venice Marco Polo, Venice Treviso, Innsbruck, or even Munich. For the most cost-effective and flexible travel option, we suggest hiring a car and driving to the Dolomites. Consider teaming up with fellow cyclists to share rental and fuel costs. You also have the option to arrive a day early or stay an extra night—just let us know when booking. Final pricing will be confirmed upon reservation.
It’s the high mountains, so there will be climbing, and you should be prepared for some challenging days. The Dolomites are demanding, but incredibly rewarding. If you want to ride in the land of Giro d’Italia legends, we strongly recommend arriving well-trained and ready. Below is a sample itinerary of what you can expect.
The best time to cycle in the Dolomites is from June to August, once the snow has melted and temperatures have warmed up. You’ll be fully supported with both a guide and a support vehicle. We also recommend bringing a small day bag with essentials such as a gilet and a rain jacket as the descents can get chilly.
Distance decided on the day
Set up your bike or collect from the bike hub on site at the hotel. One of our guides will be on hand to help and assist.
No official ride on the first day but if you would like to check the legs and go for a spin we can provide a route.
65km with 1900m climbing
A bucket-list ride for road cyclists in the Italian Alps, the Sella Ronda is a spectacular anti-clockwise loop around the Sella mountain range. Tackle four legendary Dolomites climbs—Passo Gardena, Passo Sella, Passo Pordoi, and Passo Campolongo. Perfect for cycling tours, this route offers breathtaking alpine views, thrilling descents, and classic mountain switchbacks. A must-do for any Dolomites cycling adventure.
Riding: 90km and 2800 of climbing
The Queen stage of the trip and most challenging. As ridden by the pros in the 2023 Giro d’italia you will ride through cycling history and create your own story on this epic day. As well as the Giau two more Dolomite classic climbs are waiting for you. The passo falzarego and the Passo Valparola.
The day starts comfortably with a downhill to gently warm the legs up after a big day in the saddle. After that, the only way is up and it gets steep! The reward a traditional meal or apple strudel at the Mountain inn at Passo Delle Erbe. Distance 55km and 1500m climbing.
We finished the trip with a an epic ride to Passo Fedaia
The climb from Caprile to Passo Fedaia is relentless — considered one of the hardest in the Dolomites. The road follows a narrow gorge carved by the Torrente Pettorina, with steep walls on both sides. For the first few kilometers, you’ll have steady gradients around 6–8%.
Then comes the infamous Malga Ciapela ramp: a brutal 3.5 km stretch with no switchbacks, just straight-up suffering. Here, the gradient often holds at 15%, with spikes to 18%. You’ll soon reach the Fedaia Dam, a stunning artificial lake with turquoise water. The summit is just beyond. The view back down the climb is staggering, and the glacier looms above like a giant frozen wave. An unforgettable day and incredible way to close your Dolomite experience.
Ride is 110km 3000m climbing.
Routes may vary depending on cycling ability and weather conditions
After an incredible week you will get ready to leave this breathtaking area. We guess you will already be dreaming of coming back (once rested) for another amazing cycling experience in the Dolomites.
